I suppose it's time for another daily reflection!
Singapore is currently on a "Circuit Breaker" period, which means that most places aren't going to be open till the 4th of May, and even then there's no guarantee that all shops would survive this month. As a freelancer in the creative industry - a performer, no less - it's tough because work is being cancelled left, right and centre and there's no certainty anymore whether or not the jobs that have been postponed will actually continue to take place once all of this is over.
It's definitely come as a shock to everyone — all of us who were so hopeful for the new year and the new decade (myself included). But this is going to be a year that tests everyone's resilience, strength, perseverance and determination.
I've made it a New Year's Resolution almost to leave the past in the past and to move forward with what the world has to offer. I've realised that I tended to take people for granted back home because I was so focused on building my relationship overseas. I know that I'm the kind of person that likes to give my 110% in everything before giving up or deciding that it's not worth it anymore. In this case, I might've realised it a little too late. You could say I was partially blinded by the potential of creating something beautiful with someone else — something as beautiful as a loving relationship. But sadly, not everyone tends to see things the same way, and I suppose that's alright. We all have different sets of eyes. We shouldn't be expected to see everything exactly alike... It was a hard lesson, but it had to be learned.
If I have to be honest, I'm thankful for it. It was expensive, both financially and emotionally, but I learnt so much about responsibility, honesty, commitment, openness, courage, love, integrity, detachment, letting go, acceptance and trusting my gut (and not just my heart). I want to put the past in the past now and move forward wholeheartedly into a brand new chapter of The Book of Alyssa — A chapter that will be filled with openness, unconditional love, kindness and compassion.
With that, I am going to say "Goodnight, world," and "See you tomorrow!"
Yours truly,
ALY
